In this article and instructional video, we are going to bring in the shafts of light and do a lot of fine-tuning to finesse our image. To recap, we are using our DIY lights, which are called Lithonia Metal Halide lights. We have both spot halide lights and flood halide lights, but in this article we’re going to focus on our spots. The spotlight packs the wallop of a 4K par, and if angled correctly, will create beautiful shafts of light for our scene.
For this scene, I want two shafts of light to be shooting through the windows. One will be to the side of our actress on her right side, and the other will come through the window behind her. To do this, we use two of our DIY spotlights. We place one spotlight on the side of the house as the shaft to our actress’s right side, and we place another spotlight by the front window to create the shaft of light coming through the window behind our actress.
