Shane Hurlbut, ASC

Welcome to your Advanced Cinematography kit. I am Shane Hurlbut, ASC and I have created this unique kit for all of you wanting to expand your skillset and take your level of learning and understanding higher. Inside are many articles to increase your theoretical and practical knowledge as an experienced cinematographer. These teachings are designed in a way to take you deeper into the concept of composition and camera and lighting emotion – what works and what doesn’t in real set environments. This wisdom shared with all of you will quickly set you apart from the pack. You will immediately see your toolbox expanding with fresh out of the box visual and lighting assets.

We are all visual storytellers. This is why you are reading this right now. But the written word in these articles needs to be re-read many times to really understand and retain. Please don’t just go to the video thinking that it is all of what I have to offer. This curriculum has been put together with love and care, which you have to study like a college course. I wish there was a product on the market when I was looking to expand my cinematography knowledge base that could really push me out of the comfort zone and challenge me as an artist. I find that many of us, once we find our rhythm and success, forget about learning. I find that I never stop learning. With 25 years of experience and over 20 feature films under my belt, I look at each day as a new one. I continue to educate myself in all that is new, different, and emotional. Looking to foreign films for inspiration, thinking out of the proverbial box, and starting every new project with fresh eyes are many of my CORE values. Find your CORE, understand emotion and live life through visual expression which makes people feel.

Thank you Shane for putting the Cinematography kits together and all the great advice! I just finished both the Cinematographer Starter Kit as well as the Advanced Cinematography Kits. I learned so much during this journey with you through the podcasts, videos, photos and writings.
